... What I really learned, or I guess I had to be reminded, is that we are
not alone. Mankind, myself included, become too concerned in our own daily lives to really understand that we are part of a fantastic, finely
tuned relationship. Everything (man, the large and small animals of the
earth, the atmosphere in which we live, and the waters covering over 85% of the Earth) are connected. If you change or damage one, you also will be changed or damaged. Within the chemistry laboratory on board the Roger Revelle we tested for oxygen, chlorine, nitrates and other chemicals within the sediment. Why? We have found that over the years mankind has been slowly changing his world. Yes, you can point to many things good that we have done ( life span lengthen, better health, easier living, etc.) but we have also been creating changes in the Earth we may not be able to change back. Our ocean and its partner the atmosphere have been changed by mankind. Higher levels of carbon dioxide and other hydrocarbons are found. Heavy metals and other pollutants are increasing. Average temperatures are changing throughout the world.The RV Roger Revelle and ships like her are all concerned with first measuring the changes we are doing to the Earth. What effect it will ultimately have on mankinds survival on this Earth will depend on how we interpret these findings and act.

Well, I was going to try and postpone going home a few more days, but it seems Im too sick to function anymore and I really need to head back home and get some help for this damn bronchitis. So it looks like I'll be leaving for decatur sometime early tuesday afternoon for the remainder of winter break. Ill sure as hell miss you guys, dont neglect to call/aim me and be sure that I'll be coming back up as much as I can to see you guys and Lindy. This semester has been my favorite one yet and I really feel that Ive gotten closer to a lot of you. Please dont forget me or think that Ive forgotten you. Peace.

So I read in a magazine (GQ) today that Johnny Knoxville at a GQ photo shoot accidentally stabbed Steve-O in the back with a samurai sword. Steve-O almost died. So anyway Knoxville told something like this to reporters about it: "By the time I got to the hospital Steve-O was on his eighth box of whip its, (yes he said whip its) and I gave him a some flowers with a note that read 'I would only stab you physically, not figuratively."

I would do this if I had a PS3.

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is taking its fight against illegal drugs to YouTube, the trendy Internet video service that already features clips of wacky, drug-induced behavior and step-by-step instructions for growing marijuana plants.

The decision to distribute anti-drug, public service announcements and other videos over YouTube represents the first concerted effort by the U.S. government to influence customers of the popular service, which shows more than 100 million videos per day.

The administration was expected to announce the decision formally on Tuesday. It said it was not paying any money to load its previously produced videos onto YouTube's service, so the program is effectively free.

"If just one teen sees this and decides illegal drug use is not the path for them, it will be a success," said Rafael Lemaitre, a spokesman for the drug office.

The government's YouTube videos include a previously televised, 30-second ad of a teenager running from a snarling dog and bemoaning pressure from his friends to smoke marijuana.

"Then today, they said I should try to out run Tic Tic, the lumber-yard dog," the teen says. "And I don't think I can. I'm an idiot."

YouTube, a San Mateo, Calif.-based startup, has become one of the Internet's hottest properties since two 20-something friends started the company 19 months ago. The free service allows users to share and view videos, most of which are amateurishly produced and include clips of young people singing and dancing — usually badly.

The government's short public service announcements — all of which were produced previously for television — are highly polished. They will compete for viewership against hundreds of existing, drug-related videos that include shaky footage of college-age kids smoking marijuana and girls dancing wildly after purportedly using cocaine. Other YouTube videos describe how to grow marijuana and how to cook with it.

"Welcome to the great experiment," said Lee Rainie, director of the Pew Internet & American Life Project. He predicted computer-savvy critics of U.S. drug policies will quickly edit the government's videos to produce parodies and distribute those on YouTube. "This seems pretty new and pretty adventurous."

The government linked its videos with the terms "war on drugs," "peer-pressure," "marijuana," "weed," "ONDCP" and "420," so anyone searching for those words on YouTube could find its anti-drug messages. All the videos were associated with a YouTube account named "ONDCPstaff" and identified as an 18-year-old living in Washington. The term 420 is a popular reference for marijuana.

Michael Bugeja, who studies how different groups use the Internet, said the White House plan is misdirected because online video services don't afford serious consideration to weighty topics.

"It's the wrong forum and the wrong target," said Bugeja, an author and director of the journalism school at Iowa State University.

A store owner was tacking a sign above his door that read "Puppies For Sale." Signs like that have a way of attracting small children and sure enough, a little boy appeared by the store owner's sign.

"How much are you going to sell the puppies for?" he asked. The store owner replied, "Anywhere from $30-$50." The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change. "I have $2.37," he said. "May I please look at them?"

The store owner smiled and whistled, out of the kennel came Lady, who ran down the aisle of his store followed by five teeny, tiny balls of fur. One puppy was lagging considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled out the lagging, limping puppy and said, "What's wrong with that little dog?"

The store owner explained that the veteriarian had examined the little puppy and had discovered it didn't have a hip socket. It would always limp. It would always be lame.

The little boy became excited. "That is the little puppy that I want to buy." The store owner said, "No, you don't want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I'll just give him to you."

The little boy got quite upset. He looked into the store owner's eyes, pointing his finger, and said, "I don't want you to give him to me. That dog is worth every bit as much as all the other dogs and I'll pay full price. In fact, I'll give you $2.37 now, and 50 cents a month until I have him paid for."

The store owner countered, "You really don't want to buy this little dog. He is never going to be able to run and jump and play with you like the other puppies."

To this, the little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted, crippled left leg supported by a big metal brace. He looked up at the store owner and softly replied, "Well, I don't run so good myself, and the little puppy will need someone who understands!"
